France Trip; 6/29/2023-7/10/2023 (France (Paris, Burgundy, & Champagne)): Drank after 2 days of opening Tannins have softened beautifully Fruits shine through at first, then Tertiary notes starting to come out. Beautiful earthiness still with structure and power from first opening. Nice acidity, clearly a very well balanced wine that is drinking superbly

Slowly maturing red cherry and berry with hints of baking spice and roasted meat. Much more accessible than most 2005 1er Cru, this is charming and balanced already right now, with an expanding finish. Good through 2035ish.

Really excellent. This wine always hits the right notes for me but I was expecting it to be a typical still-shutdown 2005. It is among the best 2005s I have had — deeply textured, layers of red fruit flavors mingled with tingling acidity. Tannins are present but starting to soften. Just entering it’s drinking phase and it will last a long time but no sadness in drinking now.

(Comtes Lafon Volnay Santenots-du Milieu) Medium-plus colour. Dark aromatics that are a little wilder-fruited than the Champans and again with a higher-toned floral background. Mineral concentration - and plenty of it! Lots of grainy tannin and a river of length. Very impressive wine.
(Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu) Focused ripe cherry and caramel nose; tart red fruit, rosehips, angular palate with medium-plus acidity; medium finish 90+ pts.

France Trip; 6/29/2023-7/10/2023 (France (Paris, Burgundy, & Champagne)): Lot of power here. Strong gripping tannins, but delicate, not chalky, much lighter
Lot of richer fruits, cherry.
Initially the finish had hints of a smokey, whole cluster production. Faded more so over time.
Delicious.
