  • Not as nice fruit as the 2006.
    Less oak than the 2006, yet disturbingly overoaked. Needs at least 48 hours to integrate.

  • After being closed for a long time, this wine is slowly entering the drinking window. Dark purple. Nose of dark fruit with some vanilla, oak and a smoky touch, not as complex as the best vintage but additional age could bring out a bit more as well. Soft entry on the palate with good mid palate structure and balance, medium bodied. 93-94

  • Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep ruby color, with garnet rims and legs.
    Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of cassis, blackberry, dark cherries and plum, maturity notes of tobacco and savory, animal notes of meaty, sweet spices of nutmeg, kernel notes of coffee, dairy notes of cream, hints of oak notes of smoke. The wine is developing.
    Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, with medium in alcohol level, it has medium (+) body and medium (+) intensity on flavors of black fruit such as cassis, blackberry, plum and dark cherries, oak notes of cedar, kernel notes of milk chocolate, maturity notes of sweet tobacco, mineral notes of earth. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
    Conclusion: Very good quality Pessac-Leognan showing the true beauty of the Bordeaux left bank, with an intense nose of high complexity, even at a relatively young age, with a good abundance of primary, secondary and tertiary aromas, all in harmony with each other. The palate is of elegance, with the ripe fruit highlighting good concentration and flavors, but accompanying also with all the fine elements of the wine, plus having a fairly long finish. Ready to drink now but the wine can further develop for another 3-5 years.

  • Xmas dinner, after a white Portuguese with cheese appetizers, the Pape Clement was wonderful, with the small amount of Cabernet Franc showing brilliantly

    (Chateau Pape-Clément (Pessac-Léognan)) A pile of raw oak here; it's not unusual for wines this young to show oak of course but this is particularly noticeable, perhaps because there is little else to the aromatic profile. The same character comes across on the palate. There is rather bare fruit here in the front and midpalate although there is more in evidence together with a more flattering texture towards the finish. Nevertheless this comes across as a pile of grip and a mouthful of splinters at the moment. Lots of extract giving firm tannins and a dark colour so there is a lot of wine underneath it all but it makes the wine very difficult to judge.

    (Chateau Pape-Clément Pessac-Léognan) Smoky fruit, and a lot of sweet oak here, over dense blackberry and plum fruit. A very dry palate, with the oak showing through over a firm, tannic backbone. There is good acidity, and a big, oak and tannin-infused finish. There is little in the way of sweetness, softness or generosity here. But there is certainly some substance. Could be very good indeed.
