  • This 1999 drinks better than I would have thought - lots in store but already quite interesting now.

  • Three Nights In San Juan; 8/27/2015-8/29/2015: Deep, brooding. Will be a stud. Worth opening if you have a bunch, but hang on if you only have a few.

  • Nose of earth, stones, and dry earth with a surprising overall flatness. Palate emerged as somewhat tart and acidic with light vanilla and wood flavors developing with time along with cherry. Not the best showing for this wine but still very enjoyable. Bottle from domaine.

  • This was initially too intense to even describe. It was explosive, kirsch and granache bomb, with spices intense and exotic. After about an hour it calmed downed and you could better appreciate the purity of fruit and the more manageable intensity. Had side by side with the 1990. This is clearly the better wine but not nearly ready to truly enjoy but fantastic to sample it's magnificence

  • Of the 2 DRC GC at Burgundy Thursday this was the more feminine wine. Polished, smelling of both nice red and dark fruits. Spicy in that Vosne-Romanee way, a touch of anise, but the floral smell was a bit more Roses. My father grew red roses for most of his life and this was in it. That smell after they have been cut and the life is just starting to slip out. A very attractive compliment to the spice, fruit and the last hints of oak manifesting in subtle vanilla. While I rated the La Tache a point higher, its probably purely for the lavender, which I like so much. This however would be the year that I think to be more desirable. again the wine was seamless. Great finish, perfect acid and melted tannin. A very different type of experience than with other reds like Syrah or Bordeaux blends. Touches the emotional side of your brain much more than trying to break it down intellectually. Fantastic wine, but I won't be chasing this Burgundy moment again. Wonderful to have it no doubt, but the Charmes -Chambertin, by Rousseau was equally a great burg moment and nowhere in the same price category. I also love Chambertin to begin with. Thanks for the generous wine moment Mark and Claudia.
