This is a very young with a big upside. The nose currently is a little dominated by oak, but with air this starts to fade and reveals lots of black currant, plum, blueberry, tobacco, ash, graphite, crushed stone, hints of herbs, and a bit of spice. The palate is lovely, with freshness and a delicious salinity, the tannins are well integrated, and the flavor concentration is excellent. This needs a few more years to integrate the oak for me, but once it does it will be stellar.
From a .375. Slo-ox 5-1/2hrs. Black to deep purple edge. On opening, nose of Black fruit, blackberry and black currants. First taste was bold! Cassis, cherry, some coarse oak (expected) with a bit of dill in the background. Great balance with nice tannin to balance fruit. Nose a bit reserved (closed?) but showing great promise for future complexity. Long, lingering finish. Will let the 750's rest for 3-4 more years - my guess is that they have a long life ahead.
Opened and decanted 3 hours ahead of grilled NY steak, potatoes, and asparagus. Dark violet-crimson color. Nose is shy and restrained with candied black cherries, black licorice, wild herbs, leather, sweet tobacco, and hints of blackberries. The palate is full, round, tart, and extremely juicy, bringing ripe blackberries, chocolate cherries, garlic cloves, olive brine, raspberry pipe tobacco, and hints of cedar wood into a lasting finish (30+ seconds). Overall, this has off-the-charts acidity and very potent tannins, so will likely be best in the 2020's. However, we enjoyed it now.
