This punches so far above its weight... Drink by 2012? Non. This is alive and kicking. Lovely accompaniment for a 40 day matured rib eye. Nose is dark fruited with some cigar box and a slight menthol edge. Savoury and more-ish. Palate lasts a good 20 seconds after swallowing.

This was a gift from a new friend, who said he gives an ancient bottle away to every guest at his house. This is the second such bottle -the first being an exceptional Jacaranda Shiraz a couple decades old.
Definitely diminished from whatever former glory it had, but has not turned. Mild dark berries, loamy spice, and fully integrated tannins. There is a slight hint of corkiness to the bottle, but I wouldn't say it's "corked", more that somehow the flavor of the cork is now expressed in the wine.
It has assuredly seen better days, but it was a serviceable table wine nonetheless and worked with our dinner of smoker roasted baby back ribs, butternut squash, and fennel.

Last bottle, at home, in the mood for some old school Bdx. These purchased on release and cellared since. Splash decanted and drank over 2 hours.
Medium garnet color, slightly opaque, some signs of bricking. Lighter bdx palate, dusted dark fruits, cedar, floral notes, graphite. Tannins resolved, smooth mouthfeel.
Still drinking well, I thought this might be past its prime (and maybe is) but it really opened up about 45 minutes in to show some rich flavors through the mid-palate and improving the finish. More time to wake up than prior bottles (from memory). In a great spot, would drink over next couple years
