The texture here is remarkable, setting it apart from the other DRC wines in the flight. A gorgeous wine, and the theme today seems to be the more recent DRC wines showing beautifully while the 90's bottles are often varying degrees of flawed - or more likely we are just unlucky today on the older bottles. In any case, this is a lovely wine.

During a Paulee dinner, so only brief impressions. Very youthful, I would not open this before 2028. A pleasure today but so much more to come. Aromatically not yet mature. The structure here is excellent, rich but deleniated.

Wines of the Gods (House of AC and JC): Component of DRC Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux vertical. Dark ruby with smoked Morello cherry nose. Massive rich huckleberry palate with impressive grip and a very long finish. This speaks to the vintage and smart money went deep on these big boy 2005's of earthly delight. So balanced can be broached now but best 2032-2062.

From a restaurant list with little time in the decanter: this remained reserved and we only had hints of its potential to enjoy. The mid palette grew in depth woth air, but the nose remained timid.

Still very closed. Opened for 2 hours and then decanted. An hour after decanting had added considerable weight and structure. Enjoyable after the wait but needs much more time. Stay tuned…..

(Romanée-Conti Grands-Echézeaux) The aromatics have a much deeper aspect - mulberry and savoury oak, a little spice and only faint stems - much more ‘adult’ than the obviously riper Echézeaux. In the mouth it’s very tight, but at the same time, more intense. The tannin just shows a little astringency in the mid-palate, the impression is just a little less fresh than the Echézeaux too. The finish is a slow diminuendo and less impressive today than that of the Echézeaux. The aromatics are the only dimension that clearly outpoints the previous wine - clinging beautifully to the glass. This has great potential, but today has quite a sullen aspect.
