  • Great precision, exuberance, and tension in a savory and earthy, red fruited flavor profile. A touch of salinity in the finish. This is great already and probably will get a bit better (96-97)

  • Cola/ruby core, some bricking to rim

Shows a distinct smoky note on the nose – smoked bacon, bacon fat, a creaminess… super expressive and sweetly perfumed with a peppery and savoury lift. Notes of soft leather, there is some new wood here too, all sorts of sous bois, black raspberry, leaf… loads! Sumptuous red fruits, sensational sandy/speckled quality -like an atomised spray.

Full-bodied and silky, almost creamy, super definition, great energy. Earthy spice and sweetness, it undulates and shows tension. Sense of vertical scale, the tannins have some very fine grip giving a near seamless texture, just a little chew.

On return: the nose is spellbinding. Earth and graphite, some new wood, perfumed freshly washed hair (!)… spice… so much!

Wine of the night, a memorable experience and it clearly has decades ahead of it. Wow.

  • Good but closed still. Layered, dark fruit, earthy, opened up more and more in the decanter. Upside form here, probably best after 2027.

  • This was first slightly closed, took a good 2-3 hours in the decanter to open up but wow was this great. First austere, but layered, deep and complex, with notes of red and darker red berries, some dark graphitey/mineral notes, animalic notes, some rose petals, violets, also some underwood, spices, some smoke. It‘s medium-full bodied, super silky, with some medium+ tannin that is incredibly silky, some medium-high acidity and excellent overall balance and complexity. Long finish with fantastic complexity that is building up. Great Burgundy of the very highest level. This could use another 5 years or so in the cellar.

  • "90th" Joint Birthday: Mixed spice, raspberry, red currant and roses on the nose. Pretty and delicate on the palate, with beautiful balance. Fine and finessed profile, this is at a lovely approachable point now but can obviously also develop further.
