Tasted at Domaine. Nicely developed. Melon on the nose with some honey and touch of almonds. Palate of melon along with caramel, almonds and touch of flint. Very nicely matured and still fresh and energetic. Long life ahead. Glad to have tried something aged.

This was absolutely pristine. Linear, steely, balanced, very much in the Roulot model. Flinty notes with just a touch of the lees but no flab or oxidation at all. A delight and far better than a previous bottle.

I think this wine as finally tipped. Opened a bottle last night and was surprised by it. I’ve been loving this vintage for a while, and so surprised that it’s been so good so late in its life. As I drank it last night, it still had that wonderful, oxidised hint, and buttery texture, but I really missed a bit more acidity. It’s got no acidity left. I’m not sure if this is a huge decline or if I’m more aware of it since I’ve been drinking from a case of 2007 Kumeu Estate Chardonnay. That wine lacks the subtle flavours of the Fichet, but still holds onto a bit of acidity. It’s very interesting drinking these against one another and actually speaks really well for the New Zealand wine! Still love Fichet, but I think I’m going to hurry up and drink the last bottles of this vintage quickly.

Oxidized. Shame when a clean bottle not that long ago was so good.
