Have a birthday tradition of opening old funky stuff for friends. I fully expected this to be way over the hill….surprise!!!! Nearly universal opinion that this wine is still kicking butt!! Smooth and balanced acidity with a hint of fruit on the back end. It was quite enjoyable (again, much to my surprise). Happy birthday to me indeed! Don’t be afraid to experiment with some old Napa/Sonoma wines!

Quite awful really - the oak treatment here is really quite unappealing, marring the ripe fruit that is still present with a strange, vanilla and banana-like flavor. I find little to love or admire here.

Another disappointing bottle from a set of bottles of old Silver Oak I bought from Benchmark a number of years ago. Disappointing in a similar way. Cork was good. Nose is pretty good with spices, spicy oak, cassis and black berry. The palate starts like this, and has a good texture, but later in the palate, we get more of a chemical flavor - bitter and volatile - maybe acetone. The finish is mostly that, and quite caustic. Nose - 4.5/6, Palate - 4/6, Finish - 3/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 0.5/2 = 12/20.

Cork broke when opened. Lot's of sediment.Decanted for about an hour. Wine smelled like fonsesa port. Wine is dead. No tannins left. Way pass drinking time.

Fleshy, a bit low acid, but very nice in a plusher style.
