Burgundies at Kam Boat: A brooding wine with some rustic and rough tannins. Olives, liquorice notes that made this a rather masculine brute of a wine that didn't give much pleasure. Guessed 2012 Volnay.

Popped and poured into a decanter Simple red fruit nose that really didn’t move over four hours. Just starting to show some development. Very fresh for the vintage. Palate was broad but not sweet. Ripe red fruit. Hint of development. Higher acid than I was expecting for an 09 Has a way to go yet but was very good.

McCarthy & Schiering 2009 Burgundy Tasting (Seattle Wine Storage): muted. extremely bitter. black licorice root, espresso, mud, clay and a bit green. harsh tannins. not much of a preview but i'm not so sure it will be anything special when the tannins round out. needs min 10+ years.
