In a delightful place with little evidence of age. Mildly brooding nose of blackcurrants and black plums, with touches of vanillin oak, fresh tobacco leaves, and smoked herbs. Creamy on the palate, it's rather medium in stature, perhaps more than I was expecting. Tannins are fine and soft with a nice lift at the end. Very good.

the wine is clear, medium intense ruby core with a thin watery rim, developing
nose is clean, medium intense aromas of dark berries, black currant and blackberries, oak in form of vanilla, sour sweet fruit like sour kirch, some spice, developed
palate is dry, maedium ripe tannins, medium acidity, alcohol, body and flavour intensity with aromas of red berries, vanilla/oak, dark plums, short finish
the wine is well balanced, but lacks concentration, complexity, finish which is a bit alcoholic, and intensity, i believe that this wine is past it's prim, good quality, 82p

Drank at Davy's Another great wine from Miguel Merino, this house produces great Rioja. La Quinta Cruz was planted in the early 80’s. Rich luscious and velvety smooth. Masses of fruit with a wonderful length. No harsh edges to it at all. Tasted more like a merlot.

(Miguel Merino Mazuelo de la Quinta Cruz) Dark ruby color; savory, herbs, tar, light green peppercorn nose with a sense of white pepper; tasty, savory, herbs, mineral, green peppercorn palate; medium-plus finish 92+ points (50% French, 50% American oak, 1/3 new; vineyard planted by mistake in 1981--farmer had intended to plant Graciano)

Massive and mouth coating. Plum and black currant with a long, lingering finish. Super interesting varietal.
