  • Burgundies with Friends: What a treat. Tasted blind, and I was freaking in love with this wine. When it was unveiled as an 86 Cameron, I was so amazed because I'm a huge fan. Nose showed celery seed, mushrooms, peppercorns, I quipped "it smells like someone's pickling a bunch of stuff in their garage," but there's also some lovely raspberries, red cherries. Dusty texture on the palate with crisp acidity, there's still strawberry and cherry fruit, but it's loaded with complex and beautiful notes of smoke, menthol, savory broth, rose potpourii, pickling spices, minerals. I threw out early 90s Cote de Beaune but didn't really have much confidence, just knew it was beautiful stuff.

  • Older Oregon Pinots (Wildwood, Portland OR): nose: very robust nose that is a bit shocking at first with peppery tones, spices, dark red fruits, herbs and dark berry tones. Not as much depth or nuance as the 85, but certainly showing it's own weight

taste: fuller bodied and very acidic (the acidity was a bit overpowering and a bit disjointed) with some tannins as well providing tones of spices, dark red fruits, pepper, tobacco, and some bits of mushrooms. Nice depth, but doesn't posses the layering that others had

overall: this was a very interesting wine. I was shocked at how bold and rich it was even at this stage. Still, it showed some aged characteristics and held up well over the evening

  • Old Oregon Pinot Noir - Wine Berserker off-line (Wildwood restaurant - Portland, OR): Showing age on the nose, very dark cherries but with a truffled, mushroom edge. Smells interesting. The palate shows peppered red fruit, some herbal notes like rosemary, along with earthy, mushroom notes. Surprisingly tightly structured, the acidity and tannin here could act a bit more gentle. Showing age, still a very delicious wine, but in the company tonight this seemed less integrated and ready.
