This half bottle was medium gold in glass. Palate revealed start of full maturity for this delicious medium to full bodied dry Alsatian riesling. Faint oxidized note on finish after 30 minutes. Maybe just bottle variation.
From 375. This is exceptional. A mineral-laden nose of slightly under-ripe peach, citrus, passion fruit and a hint of petrol just screams Riesling. Palate follows in a similar fashion but is better - deep, with juicy acidity, a rocky mountain stream of gravel and lime. Just the barest amount off-dry. I love this. I may be under-rating it. Edit: Actually, I just read Tanzer's note, and it is pretty spot-on....except for the pineapple part - I don't get that.
This is a nice, discreet, nuanced wine; rather low-key. Carries its 13.5 abv very nimbly - I had to double-check that it wasn't 12.5. Characteristic dry Alsace Riesling aromas. The fruit is such that there could be a touch of RS, but not more. Very refined and subtle, not an overtly grandiose GC. A good bottle, though not a huge bargain at retail pricing.
