This example of the 1953 Leoville Poyferre is disappointing, offering none of the vivacity of the 53s that continue to make a name for the vintage. This example is mostly about its earthy, tertiary aromas - furniture polish, loam, old leather. There's a subtle seam of red fruit running through it, but there's not much of that left.

Deep musty nose with still ample dark red fruit. Thins on the backpalate and faded after 45 minutes, but overall a nice surprise and a good bottle of old Poyferre

Well past its prime, the tobacco, earth, leaf and red fruit nose was the best part of the experience. Light in fruit, bright, crisp tart cranberries made up the palate.
