  • Interesting, but past it. Floral, spicy, and sweet on the nose, but turning flabby and hollow in the midpalate.

  • The grapes are sourced from Grand Cru Osterberg. Recommended drinking window beginning after 10 years and capability to age for at least 20 years, so this wine should either be now at its peak or past it.

Developed golden yellow color, although still relatively thin and pale for a wine of this age. Super-expressive, rich and expansive nose with tremendous power; complex aromas of very sweet, lychee-driven aromatic fruit, roasted Moroccan spices, overripe pear, some honey, perfumed hints of wild flowers and a touch of apple jam. Alcohol shows very slightly. Although dry, the wine still shows an illusion of sweetness due to its full-bodied and soft body and concentrated, very ripe fruit - which gets heavily contrasted by the powerful, robust and somewhat bitter spiciness. There are intense flavors of lychee, yellow damson, smoke, honey, Asian spices, some bruised apple and even faint hints of leather. Although the initial attack is really concentrated and powerful, the wine still feels that it grows in power and intensity towards the aftertaste. The acidity is relatively low, especially taking the remarkably concentrated fruit into account, making the wine feel very full-bodied and rather oily. The finish is really powerful and complex, but unfortunately rather short, probably due to the relatively low acidity; there are flavors of exotic spices, smoke, some honeyed sweetness, a little wizened yellow fruit character and hints of alcohol.

Even though a bit modest in the acid department, this is still easily one of the most impressive dry Gewürztraminers I have ever tasted. The wine shows incredible depth, power and complexity, yet in a most tremendously balanced and elegant way. Although the wine is obviously quite mature, it doesn't feel at all tired - on the contrary, I can imagine this wine could actually develop further in a cellar. Drink or hold - both of these options will result in something amazing.

  • Honeyed nose with baked apple, cucumber peel, fresh herbs, floral notes and warm spices.
Nicely dried and balanced palate with rich and pure fruit expression of pear to greenish banana. Honey, spices and liquorice. Good length finish with a bitter bite.
Finely aged wine with still many years left.

  • This wine is in an amazing place right now. PNP. Color gold. Nose floral. Fruit still really rich and bordering on sweet but softening. Great structure. Finish lengthy. Lots of life ahead. Amazing match with butternut squash lasagna tonight. No rush on these. Wait for the perfect match.
