  • Drank half of a bottle, and then the rest from a small plastic bottle about a week later. I liked the second half, cold from the fridge, even better than the first. Light golden color, oily but not sweet, searing acidity, slightly nutty, metallic touch, no oxidization whatsoever, a bit like a Sauternes but without any sweetness. Nice!

  • Two years since my last bottle and was less impressed this time around. Golden yellow. Just like earlier bottle this is clearly oxidative upon opening, almost like another premox Burgundy I thought, but this disappears with more air and the acidity with plenty of citrus moves to the front. We drank this over 90min and I never thought this found a nice balance. Also seemed a bit thin on the mid palate. While I am not a big fan of oxidative whites styles like the Rioja's of Lopez de Heredia, his whites are in terms of complexity in a different league compared to this in my eyes. Probably best to drink this up in the next few years.

  • A field blend of Viognier, Chardonnay, Roussanne, Marsanne, Sauvignon Blanc, Garnacha Blanca, Moscatel and Petit Courbu. Fermented and aged for 16 months in French oak. 13,5% alcohol.

Concentrated lemon yellow color. Complex and expressive nose that feels both powerful and delicate at the same time with incredibly nuanced, fragrant aromas of floral Moscatel tones, honey, dried aromatic herbs, some ripe apricots, a little bit of vanilla, light creamy notes of barrel aging, sweet fruity hints of white peaches and red apples and a touch of gummi bears. The wine is full-bodied and ripe, but surprisingly more fresh and moderately acid-driven than concentrated on the palate with broad and characterful flavors of creamy oak-aged character, apple purée, some white peach, a little bit of acacia honey, light tones of ripe pear, a hint of banana and a touch of crème à la vanille. The mouthfeel is somewhat oily, yet still the wine is pretty high in acidity and there also lingers a faint touch of tannic grip and bitterness, which further contributes to the structured feel of the wine. The finish is very long, creamy and complex with flavors of white peach and apricots, some banana yoghurt, a little bit of apple purée, hint of vanilla and a touch of beeswax.

A beautiful, harmonious and ridiculously complex Rioja white that doesn't go that deep into the super-complex, somewhat oxidative and very aged traditionalist style spearheaded by the likes of R. López de Heredia, but neither is this made in either style of the modernist Rioja - either a ridiculous oak bomb made in the style of traditional California Chardonnay, or a simple and acid-driven white with emphasis on freshness. No, this wine is in a league on its own: it is definitely more youthful and less oxidative than the old-school wines, making it come across relatively modern, but this wine bears no resemblance to any modernist Rioja white I've tasted. In effect, this wine bears very little resemblance to any Spanish whites I've had. Overall this wine felt more developed and complex than the (already impressively complex) vintage 2010 I've had earlier, but this also felt fresher and brighter in style, which is always a big plus. Overall the wine is starting to show the first signs of age, but it is still a long way from its apogee. Great value even at 40€. This is a thing of beauty.

  • Thank goodness this bottle was where it should be...I was worried after two bad bottles in a row. Very delicate, high acid, good weight, less showy than upon release (the rhone varietals are toned down in the mix with chardonnay still showing.) I may sit on my remaining bottle to see what it turns into but otherwise there is no need to wait any longer. Could sub for Chablis for food pairings.

  • Nutty flavors, some slight oxidative notes but not off putting. Good acidity. Not particularly my style, very correct though.
