Clearly an impressive richness and density here, but a few things protrude more than I’d prefer- seems like new oak, while cluster haven’t fully integrated, and there are still some overt tannins on the finish. Not sure if there further upside.

First of two, bought on release. All of the parts are good, especially the nose, but the wine is pretty resolved and subdued, and I wonder whether it would have had more presence a few years ago, when perhaps there might have been more of an overt attractive “hook”.

Not in the happiest place. Opens with dark fruit with some raisined and jammy flavors but civilizes itself with a bit of time in the decanter, seguing first to a reddish profile without much fruit showing at all and then to fresher and snappier red fruits with some of its youthful energy back, along with that rusty earthiness. It shows a lean figure throughout, though, seeming to have absorbed most of its tannin.

Atlanta Does Rhys Yet Again (Atlas Restaurant, Atlanta, GA): Dark cherry and menthol, very young and tannic, it still needs a good bit of time but should have the stuffing to make it.
