Similar tasting notes as before. Nice deep fruit, fairly complex, smooth and solid finish. Decanted for four hours and drank over another two. Improved dramatically with time. WA anticipated maturity 2028 to 2043 which makes sense - although I don't have the patience to wait that long. Still drinking nice with a long decant but clearly this wine is going to get much better with time. Expected score a couple points higher with some more time. Will lay down the rest.
An interesting Cabernet. Tried this basically to see if I truly liked Dunn's wines before buying more. The wine was opaque purple with an interesting nose of herbs, licorice, and dark fruit with some mineral notes underlying. The palate has lots of structure with mouth coating tannins, but there is fruit and flavorful herbs underlying. The finish is largely obscured by tannins currently. I am going to have reserve judgement overall. I wouldn't put this in a class with Diamond Creek or Spottswoode currently as it doesn't seem to have the balance and elegance of those wines; but it is clearly more interesting than a lot of Napa cabernets currently being made. It will be interesting to try with a lot more bottle age.
(Dunn Tasting Dinner, NY Vintners) - started a bit weak in the first mouthful, but then quickly moves towards a herbaceous spice. Of all of the vintages this is the wine we would buy if wanted something with great cellar potential. Needs a bit more time, but a really nice wine
