Purchased 2007. Surprisingly translucent. This got going pretty quickly, despite being cellar cool. Really superb wine overall. Needed food initially as was a touch dry and acidic but this soon relaxed in to a compelling and complex wine with a long finish. Clean, compact and focussed notes of cranberry then raspberry, smoke, leather, liquorice, raw celery and wet pavement ((c) Alice). Later a deeper bass note with a slightly powdery texture. Long finish that - like a dying star - adds a flourish of spicy oomph just before it expires. Superb. Eaten with a tuna empanada with smoked paprika.

My first bottle. Tannins soft, with acidity supplying structure but in perfect balance. Fruit is all secondary. Seamless and silky. Drink or hold if you prefer the tertiary notes of older Rioja.
