Dense purple color showing no signs of bricking. The nose lacked expressiveness. On the palate forest floor and spice and rich dark fruits. Medium bodied. A delicious wine, but maybe not the best vintage?
Drank with steak dinner before Kobe Bryant's last game--in honor of Kobe, who played his first game when this wine was just harvested. Should have had Kobe beef . . .
Incense, smoke, licorice blackberry and plum aromas are all over the place. The wine is soft, polished and almost feels as if it’s holding something in reserve. But I am not sure further aging is at the end of the day, going to reveal anything new. This is probably fully mature.
Decanted. Drank over 5 hours. Nose was stingy but expressive with slate and blackberry currant. Light/medium body with velvety mouthfeel and completely integrated tannic structure and smoothness. A fantastic experience altogether for this 20 year old beauty. My guess is that this vintage still has the chops to cellar for some years to come. Happy Birthday to me. :)
