Had with grilled wagu bone-in ribeye, broccoli, potatoes, and fig bruschetta. Bordeaux style wine but nothing noteworthy. Pleasant, decent balance, a hot moment 4/5 of the way through that resolved itself.

Dried berry, new leather, sweet spice, carob and sun-dried tomato nose. Maturing palate; dry with a ripe, sweet-centre and bisected by a strong mineral essence and structured tannin; long, developed, complex finish. 5/5

At 11 years, this wine is still drinking strong, and my cellar is not optimum. Evolving nicely in the glass with ridiculously unctuous meat, dark chocolate and molasses bursting from the glass and a full, balanced palate that finishes with just a touch of tannin and tart red fruit. This wine is going the distance.

Tonight what struck me was the balance between the bright alcohol, the solid backbone of oak, and the red lively fruit underneath. It went very well with the food, and I think i've found a secret to what what this pair of friends likes in wine: they like the upright stately naked wine that Hedges likes to produce. A very nice bottle.

Excellent, mellowed, complex and consistently good along with other vintages of this wine
