  • AP 04-06. Opened in late Nov with Zoe & Dale. I'm a little shocked at how primary this feels - the fruit is still very youthful and bright with a very classic Mosel red apple and citrus profile with bright floral and mineral notes beneath. It's only showing hints/the beginnings of more savoury and smoky development with the youthful fruit/florality dominating. But the overall sense of balance here is amazing - it's incredibly light and precise and I love the spine of acidity here. But I'll give my remaining bottles a lot more time before I check into another.

  • Pure, fat and expressive aromas of developed riesling, with honey and citrus. Very elegant on the palate and sweet like an auslese.

  • Day 3 I think. Day 1 this was a bit iffy - some funk and seemed a bit dumb. But this opened with another day or two. Now it’s lovely. Probably better yesterday but still very good Beautiful classic WS nose of peaches, red apples, baking spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, honey and a bit of minerals, a touch of apricot and apricot pits. Baklava. Palate enters a bit soft with honey but it spreads and grips in many ways and directions - apple and peach and tons of cinnamon and spice flavors come out, it gets less soft but it doesn’t become zingy and there isn’t a big acid feel - it’s creamy with some flesh but there is a backbone buzzing behind the flesh. A near citric steak comes out in the end palate towards the finish along with some minerality and spice. Grippy and spicy on the finish - bold cinnamon along with the apple peach and citrus. Some salty minerals. A bit ponderous but tons of good stuff with some lovely aspects. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5-5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16-17/20.

  • Seemed much younger than 2004. There was some petrol and lanolin in the nose but still plenty of lemon, apple and grape. Crisp, clean tastes of lemon, pineapple, apple, finishing with some grapefruit pith. Very nice but I wonder what this means for all the later vintages I have and my lack of patience.

  • Tasted blind. I thought it was an older Auslese because of the concentration and the relative sweetness. Lots of petrol on the nose. Great balance and elegance, slightly herbaceous finish. Lovely now.

(J.J. Prüm Riesling Spätlese Wehlener Sonnenuhr) Aromas of green herbs, mint, bright green apple, and fruit blossoms; pure apple on the palate. It’s brighter, fresher, and leaner that what I would expect from a Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese, but pretty and wonderfully balanced. Katharina Prüm commented that the Sonnenuhr wines from the ’90s were even lighter and drier than they are today. Terroir: Wehlener Sonnenuhr
