Decanted and drank immediately over 30 minutes. Wow..this is in amazing shape with a meaty (prosciutto) nose and lovely residual fruit on the palate. For 44 years of age this is remarkable. I would recommend to decant and consume immediately as it unsurprisingly started to decline at the 30min mark. Otherwise try pop and pour over a couple of hours.

This old Guigal has mellowed considerably and added complexity in its old age. It is smooth, soft and silky, and the color is now light to medium garnet tinged with a little brown and a touch of gold at the edges. The nose still has a hint of mushrooms and violets. The original more simple fruit and tannin flavors are mostly gone and have been replaced with more complex leaf, wood and green salad flavors. Probably 5 - 10 years past its prime, and on a slow decline, but still an interesting trip down memory lane.
