  • Decanted and drank immediately over 30 minutes. Wow..this is in amazing shape with a meaty (prosciutto) nose and lovely residual fruit on the palate. For 44 years of age this is remarkable. I would recommend to decant and consume immediately as it unsurprisingly started to decline at the 30min mark. Otherwise try pop and pour over a couple of hours.

  • This old Guigal has mellowed considerably and added complexity in its old age. It is smooth, soft and silky, and the color is now light to medium garnet tinged with a little brown and a touch of gold at the edges. The nose still has a hint of mushrooms and violets. The original more simple fruit and tannin flavors are mostly gone and have been replaced with more complex leaf, wood and green salad flavors. Probably 5 - 10 years past its prime, and on a slow decline, but still an interesting trip down memory lane.
