Displaying a deep garnet color in the glass, this wine captivates with its vibrant nose, filled with red fruits, spice, and a hint of smokiness. The palate is exquisitely smooth, with superbly integrated fruit and savory elements that unfold into a long, refined, and satisfying finish. The presence of abundant tannins and medium acidity levels suggests that this wine has the potential to continue aging, although it seems to be in its prime right now.

It's now quite easy to buy old JH at well under current retail. It canbe easy to dismiss this wine as OTT alcoholic hard shiraz but this looked ver very good at 19 years of age and indeed one of the best 'middle age' Australian reds I have every tasted. Very settled and won't get any better but very good eucalpt fruits, red berries and furry ne-like tannin. No shines of slowing down. Almost restrained yet clearly new world. Excellent stuff.

Still quite purple, only very slight red tinge. Slightly cool, muted nose. Good fresh bright entry, nice aged fruit flavours through a strong balanced middle, good length but finishes somewhat abruptedly. Not quite what I expected for a Heathcote shiraz - more elegant and refined.
