Bright garnet under the light. Strong alcohol with red berries and a touch of menthol. No relation between the nose and the taste; ripe, sweet berry medley on the front that transitions to a delightful cocoa note that blends with the fruit into a long finish. Silky texture.

Beaucastel reprise (Ben and Estella's place, Parramatta): Earthy, leathery, black tea, still fresh, baked red berries & red currant - fruit gets more jubey with time. A bit of farmyard, garrigue. Juicy, fleshy, red berries, supported by gamey, funky, leathery. lovely.

Chateauneuf du Pape lunch (Frank's place in Matraville): From Coravin. Peppery, fresh minced beef, spiced blackberry, herbceous notes, with time the fruit gets jubey with a little sweet red berry underpin. In the mouth the wine has juicy acidity, non-intrusve alcohol warmth, those jubey red fruits, talc textured tannins sit in the background. Lovely.

Medium garnet appearance. Nose of medium intensity, with aromas of charred wood / smoke, dried blackberry/cranberry and leather. Fully developed. On the palate it’s dry, full bodied with high acid and medium + tannin. The flavour follows the aromas but it’s probably past it’s best. The flavours are a bit lost and the finish is overwhelmed with acid vs fruit. Overall. It’s acceptable but won’t last much longer.

From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of a little cream, sweet spice, red berry, slight charcuterie, a little black pepper, biscuit, garrigue. The fruit that is there gets more jubey with time. In the mouth it's juicy, savoury, a little tight grippy tannins toy with the red cherry and berry, a little alcohol warmth and a tiny touch of bitterness.
