  • Each and every opportunity to drink a Romanée-Conti must be cherished, and this was certainly one of them. Opened by a generous Taiwanese collector whose birth vintage this was. Clearly a now mature wine, the wine showed beautifully in the glass, with no bricking tinge to its colour in any way. Purely on the colour, I would have placed it 5-7 years younger. The nose was inviting, like a reassuring motherly figure's scent. First impression on the palate was one of smoothness, one person qualified as creamy, which was to my taste an attribute a little too pronounced. It opened up well during the following hour, and invited to be drunk. Not a concentrated wine, as is perhaps characteristic of the vintage, but a lovely example of what a softer Conti can be.

  • En Magnum

Although it was substantially less showy, the wine showed some additional elements that the 48 GE lacked.

  • A Trip to Bern's for Old Bordeaux and Burgundy (Tampa, FL): From magnum. My first ever taste of an RC. Wow, utterly transcendent. The nose is a waking dream. Spice, brown sugar, supple, lithe. Very sexy wine.
