Tight with coffee driven nose initially. With an hour of air showed a great coffee, toast, flint, and spice nose, with red fruited palate. Classic St. Julian. Still has some coarse tannin and oak to integrate but is quite approachable and enjoyable now. Should be a little better in 3-5yrs.
Great wine with everything. Full of different fruits and complexity on the aroma, explosive. Full body wine with long finishing. It is already very good for drinking but it can age longer. Exceptional wine.
Opened 2 bottles of this two hours before serving for my "2000 Bordeaux wine tasting". The star of the tasting. Both bottles were spectacular. Deep purple in color, fragrant nose, red current, blackberry, dark cherry, graphite, and spices. Little tannin, a bit of acidity but perfectly balanced. Nice long finish. Likely to have a number of years ahead, but can't imagine it being any better than now.

(Lagrange) Stunning nose of cocoa, leather, mint, bbq sauce, menthol, asian spice. Very aromatically precise. Almost like a solid in the mouth. Great density and weight but still retains elegance. It was amazing how big how many of the 2000's were but what was more amazing was how much elegance they had. They all punched you in the face, but you saw it coming in very slow motion. Remarkable - - this vintage.
(Chateau Lagrange St Julien) Fat and rich on the nose, with dense black cherry fruit and oak, with a burnt, toasty edge - perhaps even a touch of roasting to the flavour profile. The palate is unsurprisingly still packed with tannin and very backward at this stage it its development. Nevertheless there is a hint of fat, rich opulence here and buttery fruit. Destined for excellence. Needs a decade in the cellar.
