Unbelievable for a 70 year old wine. Very sweet cherry prevailed with a hint of chocolate and cigar. Mellow, Very nice finish . Damm hard to put the glass down. Just a tad short of acid. Overall wish I had a case !!!! Beautiful!!

Nose of withered cherry, chocolate, hints of cigar box; on palate somewhat fruitful still, mellowed, balanced, smooth, reasonably lengthy and lingering finish; certainly showing its age but very pleasant as a slowly decaying claret

Bottle and fill excellent, cork very wet, but solid without seepage. A lighter colored wine initially, it looked a bit like an old barolo and the first taste was somewhat tight and attenuated. I might have guessed nebbiolo initially given its structure and reticence. This wine really fills out over 2 hours in the decater becoming dark garnet and putting on weight (much like an old barolo). Fine nose of blackberry, bandaids and earth - sort of Grave like (and barolo). There is impressive structure here and the wine has an edge, but nothing that a roasted leg of lamb won't tame. This bottle really shows the strength of the 1953 vintage.
