  • Tuesday Night Blind Tasting (Bin 75): Unblinded because it was my wine. So consistent and so great. Very similar to all of my prior tasting notes. Everyone called it left bank, but nobody thought something this dense, sexy, and powerful came from Margaux. A great wine!

  • From double magnum. Not surprisingly, fresher, and more fruit than the 750.

  • This wine is in such a perfect place now that I had to double dip the Coravin - something I normally avoid for fear of damaging the cork. Extremely refined and elegant. What it lacks in power it totally makes up in finesse. 12.5% alcohol, totally balanced and even a bit of a bite with soft, ripe tannins. Paired with medium-sized tenderloin marinaded in herbs and butter for four.

Wine is a medium ruby with slight garnet rim. Little visual evidence it is 23 years old. On the nose it is very developed with barnyard, leather, earth, and led pencil but also some underlying fruit including red plum and hints of blackberry. Also cloves from oak. Very complex.
Plate is dry, med+ acidity, med soft & ripe tannins, med body, med alc. Med+flavor intensity driven by red and black fruit flavors like raspberry & blackberry.
Very good wine. Drink now for perfect timing but no reason it can’t last.

  • Lovely dark fruit, earth and chocolate and coffee. Nice balance. Medium finish. Great now. Probably down hill from here

  • Its been a long minute since the last one of these. I say this is clearly ready without the need to age any further. To me its very soft and immediately giving, showing pretty earthy whiffs of exotic flowers and warm chocolate. In the mouth it reads mature and soft, with a very adequate 20 second finish that is probably fading with time. Drink sooner than later
