Opened at Caprice in Hong Kong. We originally slow-oxed this wine, but after the first pour decided to decant it as it was just unyielding.
Quite closed, dark and brooding. Though it got better with air, and ticks the boxes of what a Grand Cru should have in terms of tannins, intensity and acidity... this just never really gave much pleasure.
Is there any such thing as a boring Grand Cru? Perhaps it's just me but I've never figured out Clos de Tart, and being served next to an 08 Rayas didn't do it any favours today. I would suggest that there's upside in waiting for a few more years, but I'm not sure given my experience with older CdTs how much it will loosen up.

Nose of cherry and raspberry with liquorice and earth with some cedar. Palate underripe strawberry, some dark cherry. A touch of earth with some peppery spices and an slight dry oaky note on the finish.

Not met a mature Clos de Tart so far. Muscular, deep and brooding, this is unmistakably grand cru in stature. I got blackberry, liquorice, and plenty of rustic spices. While the stuffing here is immense, it is by no means obtrusive.. there is an air of elegance. Give it lots of air and watch it evolve. Or just lay it down for another 20 years.
