Black with an earth developed looking rim. Incredibly rich yet elegant, blood, meat stock, coffee, earth, game, black fruits, violet floral lift. Silky smooth, super rich, finishes with very fine tannins. Lovely structure. Flavours are very rich and quite developed. Blood, coffee, meat stock, plums and blackcurrant. Absolutely delicious. Like a powerful aged chateauneuf. Quite developed for its age but drinking beautifully bathe less.
Thought this was pretty good without being mind blowing. Really vibrant and alive fruits and secondary flavours - raspberry, blackberry, earth, leather, tobacco, herbs - they almost dance along your tongue. Silky tannins. Really in form at 16 years old and no need to wait for my tastes.
Color: medium red with slight bricking Nose: lovely, herbs, green with minty and black fruits, earth, complex Palate: silky tannins, impeccable balance, lovely in the mouth, will improve, good but not inspirational, drunk in great company of 96 Palmer, 07 Henri bonneau celestins and the WOTN the stupendous 03 Rayas 93+
Berner Wine fair (cult wine tasting) (Bern,Switzerland): Drunken parallel to the 2008 el Pison this wine was quite weak. High acidity was not well integrated and makes the wine quite unbalanced. It has concentrated fruit and might be in a dormant phase at the moment but currently it is not a very good Unico.

(Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Único) Bricking dark red violet color; mature, tobacco, cigar box, tar nose; tasty, creamy textured, tart black currant, tart berry, raspberry puree, tar, tobacco, espresso, licorice palate; should go 30 years; long finish
(Vega Sicilia Unico (Ribera del Duero)) Even before we have a taste this wine has a remarkable story; a green harvest taking 40% of the crop, a yield thereafter of 20 hl/ha, and seven years in vat and barrel before release in 2009. The blend is 93% Tempranillo and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. A great, sweet, concentrated fruit nose here. Fabulously concentrated aromatic character, with layers of red and back fruits, sweet and well delineated, with a lifted freshness despite all those years in wood. It also has that complex, meaty, spicy-savoury beef stock element to the fruit that can make the wines of this region so fascinating. Superb character. On the palate it is broad, warming, concentrated and still remarkably tannic, but also very balanced and correct. Great breadth and depth, all very well defined with evolving complexity already. This very fine effort will go for decades. Superb, a vin de garde I would be delighted to have in the cellar.
