the cork was pretty shot but after careful surgical removal, 95% of it came out in one piece. Initally the nose was weak but showed signs it would open up. WOW did it ever. About a half hour later it blossomed into one of the best wines to come from my cellar which, at one time had MANY 1970's California cabs. I almost am never disappointed with Ridge, even if the cork looks bad, the wine almost never is.
