88 pts

  • way porty nose, with oxidized apple in it somewhere. palate is similar - i appreciate the originality, and this wine lets it all hang out, but I enjoyed the Melon Le Rouge-queue more.

  • i liked this bottle better than the last. still shows those volatile aromas, the nut-like saline oxidized notes that are so reminiscent of fino or manzanilla sherry. this bottle is definitely bright and fresh, and offers complexity and interest. not my favorite example of this kind of wine, but very good wine.

  • Wonderful nose that typifies Arbois Savagnin - saline, nuts, wide open and airy, hints of something tropical. But the wine is not made under the veil - it is topped up and I just don't understand how the nose is so sherry-like. The palate is delicious and graceful, almost lacy, but does not offer the same intensity and depth as some of the other Savagnins I've had recently, of which for some reason there have been many.
