The 2009 Fonsalette Blanc is a brilliant bottle, and one of the best Southern Rhône whites I've drunk for some time. Offering up aromas of candle wax, confit citrus, sweet orchard fruits, orange zest and herbs, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, with lovely cut and grip despite its rich, glycerin-laden style. The Marsanne in the blend, along with the cooler Fonsalette mesoclimate, really distinguishes this from the baroque extravagance of Rayas Blanc.
