  • Well, what a wine, but especially those like me who were lucky enough to buy this wine when it came out at 27 euros a bottle probably made the deal of their lives! I took the wine to a restaurant and they probably didn't have the best glasses to check it, hence my 98 out of 100! Especially since I enjoy the aroma more than the taste!

    Aromas in the nose
    1. Ripe red fruits such as cherries and strawberries
    2. Blackberries and plums
    3. Floral notes, such as violets and berries
    4. Leather and tobacco notes

    Flavors on the pallet
    1. Red and dark fruits, with a focus on cherries and blackberries
    2. Plum jam and raspberry preserves
    3. Pepper and clove spices
    4. Licorice and dark chocolate
    5. Herbal elements, reminiscent of
    6. Toasted oak and vanilla from barrel aging

  • Not a bad showing... but on this night/evening, I'd placed this behind the '10 Ferme du Mont...

  • Deep color. Black cherries, black raspberries, currants, licorice and hints of floral and earthiness in the nose. Blackberries, black cherries, raspberries and black currants with hints of herbalness in the flavor. An elegant wine, rich and complex. It is very well balanced, full bodied, great structure, and a long finish. Plenty of time left in this bottle. Delicious!

1/30/2018 Wow! Rich concentrated fruit in the nose and flavor, black raspberries, black cherries, blackberries, figs, licorice, earthiness, and some floral and herbaceousness. Very complex wine, full bodied, great structure, and a long finish. Decanted four hours. 96/97

  • Out of double magnum double decanted for 5 hours.
Wow. It almost has everything. Lovely nose, mouth feel. Tannins fruit fully integrated. Like velvet. Wonderful wine. Why not higher? Maybe length and secondary flavors do not match the rest of the wine’s characteristics?

(Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône Valley, France) Clos des Papes is a traditional estate that has been producing wine in the region for more than 200 years. Although proprietor Paul Avril died this year, his son Vincent carries on his legacy. Refusing to create a special cuvée, as many of their competitors in the region have done, the Avrils produce a delicious Grenache-based wine aged in large wood foudres. The 2007, from a forward, ripe, and rich vintage, is full-bodied, with kirsch, licorice, and blackberry flavors; a lush, supple texture; and a long, balanced finish.
