  • DRC, Bizot, Pignan, Soldera and Grange (L'envol, St Regis, HK): Bottle decanted.
More brick red shade and past peak, but still very entertaining.
Still some acid left, herbs and forest floor.
Nose medium plus to intense, finish medium.
    Drink up.

  • Opened at L'Envol in HK. P&P and enjoyed as the first red in a great flight for dinner.

    #初三DRC (14744/15789)

Unfortunately, this was somewhat past peak. The nose was 'tired but good Pinot' - expressive, but lacking energy and the DRC whole cluster influence was quite muted. You could tell the pedigree of this wine on the finish, but as the evening went on it started falling apart into an acidic mess.

If I were to track the evolution of this wine over the evening, it started out with a 91/92 - climbed up to a 93/94 with a little bit of air and some fresh pours, but declined fairly soon into the dinner. This also faced some tough competition, and our '19 Bizot's whole cluster nose was so apparent in comparison.

Would drink up if you are lucky enough to have these. Judging by the TNs below, looks like we got unlucky with the bottle (despite the cork being perfect). Still, a legendary wine and thank you to TT & M for sharing this beauty with us.

  • "Casual DRC BYO": 01020/15789. Fourth time is the charm? Even better than the previous ones, wow, just pure red-fruited spice box in completeness, blue jungle berries to keep it fresh, light notes of roasted game, the perfect balance of delicacy, power and pinching precision. Even more drive on the back end than previous bottles, firm yet silky tannins pushing it towards its regal edge. 97-98

  • Overtly floral and stemmy when opened, shows its sheer power on the palate, lengthy lengthy finish. It shows so youthful that I would think it's still a bit early to open

  • Casual Sunday Dinner?: 14328/15789. Ethereal, lifted, opulent spice, sous bois, red and blue fruit, gamey, garden of flowers, rose petal, camomile, Oriental tea, stemmy, regal. Grip of power caresses the palate, not too much, not too little, just enough to leave a lasting weightless impression. DRC's star of the vintage and easy WOTN. 97
