  • A really lovely drink. The nose has some smoky mineral notes along with tobacco, mint and red fruits. It is gently creamy but still possess good detail. It is only mid-weight and balance and proportion are perfect. Briary fruit flavours are back-lit byelectric acidity and it finishes with some crunch.

  • From Art's cellar. Wine was superb. Decanted through a screened funnel for about 90 minutes. Color was still dark in the bowl, not much bricking despite its age. Even during decanting a wonderful nose of cassis, slate and flowers came forth. It did not subside in the decanter or glass. In the mouth, the wine tasted far younger than its years. Good red fruit, no green, some minerality and perfect balance. Probably can last quite a bit longer, but why wait? Price tag when bought in 1991: $13.99. Talk about QPR ratio.

  • Fresh, vibrant, punchy and engaging. There's plenty of pipe tobacco and gravel. Fruits are crisp and red. It has an elegant feel against the gums but lacks no stuffing. It finishes with good cut and leaves a nice perfume in the mouth once swallowing.

  • Double-decanted for sediment before going to restaurant. Soft, plummy, mature. Red and black plums, low acids, resolved tannins. Some tobacco and a little earth. Pleasant workmanlike claret. I might have guessed Graves blind, but I would have not gotten 1988 in lots of tries- maybe 1997! Perfectly acceptable, went well with food (might could have used a bit more body for her steak),. but most importantly served its symbolic purpose. B
