(Beef Stew w Jeff, DY, Kenneth) [Vertical alongside 2000] Concentrated, still intense and clean, velvet leather, elegant. Surprising power for age. Dark wood, ripe plums, spiced cherry. Inky savoury. Powerful. Drinking at peak.

Loyang chalet doggie BBQ. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of Ribena concentrate, blackberries, blac plums, dark currants, eucalyptus. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), smooth resolved completely integrated tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of blackberry jam, black plums, cassis, spice, some eucalyptus. Long finish. Very good quality. Drinking at peak now already. Has some black jam notes but overall doesn't feel jammy despite the pronounced intensity.

Decant and let breathe for a couple of hours. Fruit still there and tannins very soft. Excellent and timing was good because time to drink because cellaring had been good. Awesome and lucky!

Wine Bros: Australia Part II (Orsay): Bright and fruity and a bit more intense. Almost dark and kind of seductive in style. There’s a hint of alcohol still really here. Really interesting to do back to back 01/02 vintage comparisons. This was the first one and I think while the ‘02 received a lot of the hype it’s the ‘01 that is showing a bit better with some age.

(d'Arenberg Shiraz The Dead Arm) Group's #1 (my #6) – 35 pts; 3 firsts, 2 seconds, 1 third, 1 last place – deep black red violet color; sweet roasted meat nose; plush, concentrated berry and plum palate, tangy, tight yet; medium-plus finish (improves and opens a lot after 45 minutes in the glass)
