Lots of cedar, blackberry, mushroom, cool pencil lead, a streak of green bitterness. The tannins were still a present force, but not obtrusive. The nose was wonderful and open.
Opened this up at 0800, poured a medium sized glass, recorked and decanted from 1530-1745. Decant time was right on. Very different from 2005 vintage on. I think this can easily go and improve another few years.

(Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac) Nice colour with maturity at the rim. This has a Cabernet dominated blackcurrant nose. Like the 1993 this too seems a little hollow on entry but things quickly pick up. Overall the palate is impressive, silkily textured, sweet and structured, with fine-grained tannins behind a depth of glossy fruit. Balanced acidity. Just a touch more tannic on the finish. Needs another year, maybe two.
