Friday Group Brown Bag Tasting (EBCC): Half bottle. Light golden color. Notes of pineapple and apricot, with botrytis spice and mango as well. Full-bodied with a rich texture and flavors of apricot, marmalade, fresh pineapple and pear nectar with bright underlying acidity. Long finish. Excellent.

Very classy wine from a terrific vintage. Nose has barley sugar, lime juice steeped pineapple, some rhubarb and some subtle spearmint. Palate so unctuous and charming; beautiful balancing acidity and freshness. With air the nose reveals more layers; some macadamia, some grated fudge and hints of overripe mango. Love it.

Deep amber in color. Dried honey, lemon peel, mango, and a touch of almond. Medium body, syrupy sweet, and only medium acidity which is not nearly enough for the RS. This results in a mild cloying effect. Still enjoyable but one of my least favorite Sauternes.

From 375 mL. One of the most stunning bottles of Sauternes I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. Tremendous aromatic intensity - oolong tea, orange peel, saffron, exactly the right level of liveliness from VA. On the palate the sweetness-acidity balance is pretty much perfect. Lots of both. This wine has plenty of stuffing but has a weightlessness and clarity to its edges that gives it an effortless grace despite its intensity of flavor. Wonderful now but should go on for decades. And yet more proof that Sauternes is the greatest deal on Earth. This was $30 for a half bottle.
