  • Exceeded expectations. I expected this to be lacking in fruit, but it’s still there. Obviously more secondary/tertiary notes at this point, but this was a good bottle of wine and more than worth the $40 flier

  • Last bottle of this beautiful, mature $40 wine. LOL today.

    Beautiful, regal, and fully mature.

  • Echoing some of the other notes on here…

Definitely a tertiary driven wine, lots of leather, touches of pepper, spiced meat — the only fruit is kinda of a stewed black cherry note, something deep and not really fruit-driven. Medium+ acid, fully resolved tannins, drinks super smoothly and effortlessly — and is interesting as well. It’s not a wine for everyone. It’s also not a wine you’ll need a lot of bottles of, it’s interesting and intellectual, but might be a wine that having once will be enough — there’s probably something more purely enjoyable out there.

  • Sangiovese this old is fun to explore. Showing its age in the glass with not only substantial bricking but carrying an orange hue throughout. The nose is subtle with a bit of decaying fruit and earth. This is a wine with pretty much all tertiary characteristics. The mouth carries well-resolved tannins - really just remnants of what was there though still prominent late on the finish. Until the finish, the wine is pretty delicate. There is a bit of orange rind early and dried tomato on the finish. A food wine - I think it would be fabulous with pasta in a white cheese sauce. My tasting partner thinks chicken or eggplant parmesan. Not a crowd-pleasing wine and not for neophytes. Wonderful experience. Drank alongside the Felsina CC 20 years later - 2015. Fun comparison.

  • Gave it a few hours of air.. still pretty tight but good.. a few hours more started to turn a little astringent… I think maybe over the hill….
