Seems mature. There’s a spice note on the nose and a little dried tertiary fruit not. Palate is on the narrow and bright spectrum. Has a narrow and thin focus. Finish with some nice earthy notes. Hard to see this getting better and may be drying out a bit. But very much still alive.

Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): I really like how this has resolved. There's a very nice brown spice component on the nose, as well as hints of light red fruit, though the fruit is definitely drying out at this point. The acidity of 2001 looms over this wine, but it manages to stay fairly balanced. The slightly more rustic terroir shows here as well, as this is a little more coarse than the other Burgundies tonight, but it is absolutely lovely for what it is.

Popped and poured, medium bricking ruby. While this needs a bit of air to get going, after about 45-60 minutes a subtle yet elegant perfume of red cherry fruits, anise, mild spice, kelp and an impression of minerals tinged with autumnal vegetation begins to emerge. Moderate-light body with unobtrusive acidity. On the palate, this again shows subtle sour cherry notes interspersed with hints of spice, green and minerals. Although the flavors aren't especially exuberant there's an admirable purity of focus to them that comes off as almost crystalline in nature. The tannins are still somewhat chewy and astringent on the moderate close. This is drinking nicely right now with aeration but would certainly benefit from a few more years in the cellar.

Red fruit (cherry, slight plum), spice, earth, slight anise. Good acidity. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable.

Dried leaves on the nose. Red fruit. And cranberry.
