Community Tasting Notes (6) Median Score: 86 points

  • Almost bad enough to put me off fancy, schmancy foreign new age wines forever! Just bad. Light bodied red. Sour bouquet. Poor balance. Luxuriously, long aftertaste - unfortunately of lingering vinegar. Undrinkable. Going straight into my red wine beef recipe.

  • Portuguese Reds (Sydney): Colour: Ruby, clean, medium intensity, some tears
Nose: clean, medium minus intensity developing nose with aromas of dusty cherry, slight vanilla, alcohol heat, meat notes.
Mouth: medium everything but medium minus flavour intensity of cherry, a bit dull, neutral and short

  • {screwcap, 13%} Impressively deep and ripe aromas of plum and blueberries, not especially oaky, and with an authentic old-world earthiness to them. But the palate lets the show down, being relatively loose-knit and coarse in its flavours. Still, it's $12, so you can't complain too much. But still, there's an earthiness that goes beyond the soil here, almost into the fungal realm. About medium-bodied weight, but with a predicatably short finish. So-so, I guess. Better spend more money than try to find better at this price.

  • Dirt cheap Portugal drinking here in Australia at under $10. But, only really drinks like a wine about this price, and perhaps a tad higher, but still hard to complain. Ripe fruits, generic and simple (but pleasant) and a nice layer of chocolate emerges over time. If I was to be critical, the grape mix here is from 4 local varieties but this doesn't really shine through. Rather, just a simple and coherent mix of ripe fruits. Of course no problems with this given the price.

  • Decanted for one hour, served at room temperature. Color: Medium Red. Nose: Black Liquorice, Blueberry, Raisin. Palate: see nose. Finish: Short to Medium. Tannins: Low to Medium. Alcohol: 13 % showing. Medium bodied mouthfeel with initial dark fruit. Mid-palate adds black liquorice transitioning into a raisiny, alcoholic finish. Feels a bit watered down and missing character to get excited about. Overall a very average effort. 84-85 points.
