  • I liked the bouquet of this from the initial pour into the decanter. I had high hopes. Sadly after an hour I grew impatient for the smells to rise up from said decanter. While it's been awhile since drinking Piedimonte Nebiollo, I must have forgot the 3-6 hour rule so I tried the first glass regardless. First the beautiful nose of Rose petals, road tar, earthy mushroom, red and dark fruit with some spice too. One the palate it wasn't happening yet. Solid and fierce tannin with acidity to boot masked the underlying fruits. With patience I was able to mask out the hard tannin and acidity to find the beautiful red fruit and scorched earth. However seeing such great potential I funneled the remaining wine into the bottle and parked it into the refrigerator no the components are there without doubt. Opening tonight or tomorrow will see if the fruit has the proper leverage over the tannin and acid. I expect good things. A great Peidimonte QPR if there ever was one.

  • PnP, served non-blind. Garnet toward ruby. Nose begins slowly, with funky, reductive notes, but moves, albeit a little slowly, to a modest, but pretty nose of mentholated cherries, fennel, dust and roses. Full(-) body, with lively acids and, surprisingly for its age, tannins that remain silently in the margin, giving this a subtle, but complete framing. Ready to drink now, but I would recommend 30 minutes in decanter for proper aeration. 14,0% abv, drink thru 2018.
