  • drank more than 2½ hours after opening. Very caramelized as expected, with lots of vanilla and cotton candy. Not a wine everyone will enjoy.

  • Kleur: Diep goudgeel. Dat stelt me zelden teleur… Deze The Judge was ongetwijfeld twee jaar geleden NOG mooier!

Colour: Deep golden yellow. Aroma / bouquet: The first impression is defined by a slightly oxidative note (a hint of madeira and soya). In addition, pronounced notes of tropical fruit, refined wood, butter and toffee. Taste / Aftertaste: Subtle acidity (cooled to 14°C), thick-juicy with a creamy mouthfeel, a proverbial 'mouth full of wine' with impressions of ripe pear and pineapple, toffee and butter. Seriously long finish. General / potential: As a lover of mature red and white wines, I don't always stick to the 'drinkability horizon' of CT or of professional reviewers. That rarely disappoints me… This The Judge was undoubtedly EVEN more beautiful two years ago! The Judge has been regarded more than once as 'Napa's finest Chardonnay' and 'an affordable alternative to the finest French white Bourgognes'. However, the storage potential of 'great French Chardonnays' is FAR! over 17 years.. 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / Bouquet: 13 + Taste / Aftertaste: 18 + General / Potential: 9 = 95/100

  • definitely too ripe, but improved significantly with chilling down to a lower serving temperature. Showed a good amount of mineral and flint, with a big toasty nose. Still ripe on the palate and the finish was kinda short, with a little bitterness.

  • more mineral, very ripe, but actually younger and fresher.
