Subdued red fruit with good minerality and a short finish. Did not decant, and opened it in a group situation which did not allow for a protracted examination. I feared (my bottle, and I have five more) that it's past peak but others present disagreed and deemed it not ready yet. Hoped the TNs posted here would shed light, but reactions seem mixed. Dang.
Alex opened this to accompany the 1990 Chateau Leoville Las Cases-thank you Alex. Bright red color in the glass, pristine cork when opened. Lovely nose of mums, cassis, Bing cherry, and minerals with hints of herbs and white pepper, more of the same on the palate, lovely tasting the mineral complexity in the mouth, slightly subdued fruit, medium body, medium/long finish.
Beautiful bouquet with ripe cassis, perfume, cedar and luxurious oak as well as a touch of sweet impressions. On the palate a classical claret with dark as well as red forest fruits, sweet spices, coffee, beautiful oak and pleasant bitterness in the end. The tannin is still a bit sticky. An intense wine. Good length. Delicious. It came from a perfect cellar and it is still youthful and should still drink very well around 2018.

(Leoville-Poyferre) A glorious wine if a bit young. Tobacco, rich cassis fruits, some spicey oak and minerality on the nose. The palate is quite massive with extremeley concentrated fruit and thrilling ripeness but wonderful smokey, tobacco, mineral character. Sweet and ripe tannins carry the finish. Excellent acids too.
(Chateau Léoville-Poyferré St Julien) Another intense, red-purple wine. The nose doesn't give too much - some sweet mineral-edged fruit. Quite classy. Bags of structure on the palate. It's a massive, hard wine, with hidden fruit and plenty of tannin. Moderate acidity. Five years in the cellar needed here.
