40th birthday dinner celebration, from magnum (wedding gift 10 years ago from wife!), next to Ridge 2006 Monte Bello: The Insignia was incredibly smooth, with a glorious and long finish. I slightly preferred the MB, as it had a bit more interesting character. Both were stunning.
Been a while since the last bottle, maybe a decade ago. The nose gives off an earthy leather, with a subtle mint mixer. On the palate, you get a sense that this isn't going to last too much longer, as it is starting to lose the acidic backbone that prevents is from transitioning from elegant to deliciously flabby /flat, but veeery tasty. I'd give this 2-3 years left based on this bottle before exiting it's peak. As bordeaux as a Cali-cab can get, the symbiotic relationship of fruit and alcohol prototypical-just great juice.
