By no means a tired turkey, the ‘82 Cristal is extraordinarily complex and interesting - and much more lively than the ‘74 next to it. Medium dark. Still has a modest bead of ultra fine bubbles. Barely roasted apricot flavor. Almost oily. The more you sip it the more flavors you get, but only if you concentrate.

Charleston Offlineorama VII; 11/2/2022-11/6/2022 (Various locations): Apricot apricot apricot. A bit reductive at first. Indian spice lovely burntish caramel. I don’t care for young Cristal because of the sweet notes, but this aged bottle was marvelous. WOTN against heavyweight competition for me probably—pin fact, my wine of the entire weekend.

(Cristal) Wow! This was just jamming on all cylinders. Immediatly out of the glass this was roaring with fresh coffee grounds, black truffles, cinnamon, cumin and some roasted pear. Just an amazing nose. The palate was bliss. Amazingly complex palate that has perfect integration of acidity, truffle flavors, spice and even some tannin. The bubbles are so soft yet you still know they are there. It is one complex cohesive unit. Stunning purity and depth. This just stained your palate for minutes and left nuances of truffles for almost twenty minutes after. Stunningly profund wine.

Fresher and more interesting than the previous bottle. Quite a few bubbles remain even if they fade quickly. Very complex and impressive.

Brad and Diane England and Peter Joseph weekend dinner, Part 2. (Roger Nellans home): A nice way to start the evening. Golden color. Slight pop when pulling the cork. Some pleasant oxidative notes. Citrus and nice acidity...

In perfect shape, and excellent. Hard to find this combination of age and freshness in old Cristal. This had it all.
