  • Chris' Housewarming (Hamilton, ON): Stunning Bordeaux. Best I've had in a long time and possibly the best Montrose ever? The nose is wildly exotic with perfectly ripe dark fruit. The complexity is seamless and perfect. The nose is of blackberry, cassis, slight bandaid, very slightly herbal, mixed baking spices, smoked meat, leather, pipe tobacco, sweet cedar, spice box (it goes on and on). The palate is round, sleamless, and velvity. The long finish is dark, sweet, complex, and long.

  • Yes!!!!!.....cedar, leather, earth, forrest floor, cassis, black currant, spice.
Palate is so svelte.......this is the business. Pure sweet, dark, spicey fruit augmented with earth, cedar, pipe tobacco, forest floor, smoke, pencil lead, graphite, and plum.
Finish is long, layered and elegant.
    Awesome wine!!!! Reference point bordeaux

  • With 1990 Montrose, similar to Jekyll and Hyde, you never know who is going to show up as some bottles are completely marred by brett. Fortunately, this was a fresh, clean bottle and it was singing. Still young, but past the primary stage, the wine is big, powerful, concentrated, yet regal in its bearing. The fruit is fresh, earthy and vibrant, and the finish sticks with you for close to 50 seconds. 2 hours of air helped, but 10 more years of age will help even more.

  • 89 vs 90 tasting. Beautiful wine. Still incredibly youthful with unbelievable depth of dark fruit flavors. Preferred this over the 89 tonight.

  • 1989/1990 Bordeaux Dinner (Feast & Imbibe - Evanston, IL): Perfection! Dark ruby in the glass. My first note upon smelling the wine ... "Holy fu**ing shit!" The aromatics literally explode from the glass with a combination of power/grace and breadth/depth that blew me away. Aromas were varied and deep including bright fruit, earth/funk tones, mineral, tobacco, cigar box and bell pepper. In the mouth this wine packs power and richness with amazing levels of elegance. Layers of flavor and texture. Vibrant acids and lively acidity. And a long, lingering and penetrating finish. Perfection in a glass.
