  • La Tâche 1985-2010 Vertical NYC (Le Pavillon NYC): Very forward with candy notes and red fruits. On the palate it dries out significantly. 91-92
We joked this is a $4000 beaujolais (I am sorry but I couldn't help it).
This is the least of my fav of entire night (for all the glasses I was able to taste)

  • La Tâche Vertical (Le Pavillon): Nose here isn’t terribly showy. Candied red cherry. A little too much modern polish that doesn’t quite fit. Nose is odd but the palate is actually pure and clean and a little more in line with what we’ve seen so far. Smoke and oak. I don’t think I’d call this DRC blind. The group hated this.

  • When this was opened I was unimpressed with this bottle preferring the 92 but as the evening progressed this gained more weight and was the better wine with more character and complexity albeit a little short on the finish. Both were trumped by the 2017. I would drink up any existing bottles.

  • Light orange peel aromatics, which carries onto palate. Somewhat dilute. (2359/15266)

  • DRC vs Leroy Dinner (Kheam Hock Road): Really enjoyable, even if this was one of the laggards on the night in terms of sheer power and depth. This had a very distinct nose, very whole cluster, with notes of woody herb, green bramble and stems, along with a beautiful La Tache perfume of violets, blueberries, black cherries and plums, all ringed with a garland of exotic wood spice. Gorgeous, unless one hates anything greenness. I thought this smelt wonderful though. The palate was more about elegance than sheer power, with super-fine tannins and detailed acidity tracing their way through fresh, succulent flavours of black cherries and plums, again infused with lovely stream of fragrant wood spice, earth and a bit of dried flowers. Unfortunately a touch skinny and a bit green, but also so beautifully pure and wonderful integrated, a velvety mouthful of Vosne goodness. Neither the most powerful nor the most voluptuous La Tache, but boy this was enjoyable.

(Romanée-Conti La Tâche) A wine that set the tone (hue) for the colour of the other wines - despite it's relative youth, this wine was an old mahogany colour of medium-plus depth. On opening, this wine showed mushroom, forest-floor, inflections of soil, a deep peppery undertone and eventually a baked cherry note. Less round than the 2002 - the acidity sticks out a little. There is good length and weight, but the elements are somewhat disparate. This was actually the only wine that required extended air-time to show its potential. One hour later there was more harmony, less mushroom and a very strong 'family' resemblance to the wines that followed it. Don't be disappointed if you have this wine - I wouldn't be!
